Since we don't know the names of most of the animals, I named them:
This guy is Ziggy the Zebra.
He drools. A LOT.
Like down to my elbow drool.
It was rather disgusting.
But, I kindof love him and want to take him home with me.
Larry the Llama was also a big favorite of the Smidget.
He really liked his fur and that he didn't niblbe him at all.
Larry was quite a nice, patient guy.
In fact, Smidget refused to pet any of the animals until we got to Larry.
Larry was so nice and non-scary that he just went right up.
Daddy picked him up and after Mama fed Larry a little nibble
Smidget picked up on the idea and started feeding him by the tiny fist-full.
Larry was very happy about this and was really sad when Smidget moved on.
Larry's next-door neighbor, a fat pregnant goat.
I decided Gertrude was a pretty good name for her.
Smidget liked her too. She was slow-moving and calm and quite impressed
with Smidget's food-handling skills. He didn't flinch
or jerk away. He just opened his palm and let her munch.
Alfie the Alpaca---
Alpacas are VERY weird looking creatures.
Especially when their fur is trimmed traditionally.
They have short hair on their faces and necks and then a HUGE mop
of semi-dred-locked hair on the top of their heads. They look like they
have a bowl cut: that hideous haircut that all the boys had in
elementary school when I was a kid.
Combine that with wild bugged-out eyes,
long, crooked teeth,
and an energetic personality...
Smidget's reaction was "no" and while he WANTED to feed Alfie...
he just wound up THROWING food at him because he didn't want to get THAT close.
Fair enough. Alfie didn't mind eating off the sand.

HAHAHA that would scare me too :) But it's cute that he liked the llama! Maybe you should get one for your backyard ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe I will :D
ReplyDeleteWhen we don't live in the desert where it'd get too hot for them---the petting zoo people said they don't come later in the year because its too hot for most of the animals (other than Ava and her brother)
